Mary Magdalene, << MAG duh luhn or MAG duh leen, >> a follower of Jesus, was called Magdalene because she was reputed to be from the village of Magdala. Luke gives her name at the head of a list of women of Galilee (Luke 8:2). She was known as one out of whom Jesus had cast “seven demons.” She followed Jesus the rest of His life, and may have stood at the cross when He was crucified (John 19:25). She was remembered as the first person to see Him after He arose from the tomb (John 20).
