McKay, Heather

McKay, Heather (1941-…), an Australian squash player, set a record by winning the British Open Squash Championships 16 times in succession. She won every year from 1962 to 1977. She did not compete in 1978. She also won the Australian Amateur Championships every year from 1960 to 1973. In 1976, McKay won the inaugural world squash title. She won a second world title in 1979. After retiring from competition, she took up coaching.

Heather Pamela Blundell was born on July 31, 1941, in Queanbeyan, New South Wales, Australia. She married Brian McKay in 1965. She also played field hockey for Australia in 1967. In 2018, the Australian government made McKay an Officer of the Order of Australia, an award for service to the country or humanity.
