Moor

Moor is a large area of open, poorly drained land. A layer of peat that is usually wet covers some moors. The word is most often applied to the moors of Scotland and other parts of the United Kingdom, where heather grows in abundance. But there are also moors in northwest Europe and North America. Sphagnum moss grows on most moors, especially in North America. Many moors have special names. See also Peat .
