Munsey, Frank Andrew

Munsey, << MUN see, >> Frank Andrew (1854-1925), was a pioneer publisher of low-priced magazines and newspapers. He had little education or financial backing but made nearly $20 million. He started Munsey’s Magazine in 1889. The magazine’s circulation reached 650,000 by 1900. Munsey built a successful grocery chain and used his profits to buy 17 newspapers. He often bought competing papers and combined them into one. Munsey was born on Aug. 21, 1854, in Mercer, Maine. He died on Dec. 22, 1925.
