Nagle, Kel

Nagle, Kel (1920-2015), an Australian professional golfer, won the Canada Cup (now the World Cup) for Australia with Peter Thomson in 1954 and 1959. Nagle won the 1959 Australian Open championship and went on to win the British Open tournament at St. Andrews in Scotland in 1960.The British Open title was Nagle’s only victory in one of golf’s four major championships. In 1965, he tied for the United States Open championship but lost the play-off. Nagle won the 1964 Canadian Open tournament. He won the Australian PGA (Professional Golfers’ Association) Championship six times and the New Zealand Open and PGA Championship seven times each. During his professional career, Nagle won 80 tournaments.

Kelvin David George Nagle was born on Dec. 21, 1920, in North Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. He became a professional golfer in 1946. Nagle died on Jan. 29, 2015.
