Nash, Charles William (1864-1948), was a pioneer in the United States automobile industry. He became president of the Buick Motor Company in 1910, reorganized the company, and made it financially successful. Nash was elected president of General Motors Company in 1912 when it was close to bankruptcy. The company prospered under Nash’s leadership. Nash resigned from General Motors in 1916. He then bought the Thomas B. Jeffery Company, an automobile firm from which he formed Nash Motors Company. He was president of the company until 1932, and board chairman until he died. The Nash firm merged with Hudson Motors in 1954 to form American Motors. Nash was born on Jan. 28, 1864, in De Kalb County, Illinois. He died on June 6, 1948.
