National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is an agency of the United States Department of Commerce that works to improve knowledge and use of the environment. It is responsible for forecasting the weather, for managing ocean resources, for providing various oceanic and atmospheric services, and for undertaking research relating to oceans and the atmosphere. The NOAA’s major organizations include the National Environmental Satellite, Data and Information Service; the National Marine Fisheries Service; the National Ocean Service; the National Weather Service; and the Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research.
