Newark, Delaware (pop. 30,601), is the home of the University of Delaware and a manufacturing and research center. It lies in northern Delaware, about halfway between New York City and Washington, D.C. Newark’s products include cleaning supplies and pharmaceuticals (medicinal drugs). Engineers develop electronic components in the city’s research facilities. Newark was chartered in 1758. It has a council-manager form of government.
