Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is an association of 38 nations from around the world. The OECD works to promote the economic and social welfare of its members, and coordinates their efforts to aid developing countries.
The OECD was established in 1961 to succeed the Organisation for European Economic Cooperation (OEEC). Seventeen European nations formed the OEEC in 1948 as a result of the Marshall Plan. Under the Marshall Plan, the United States helped Europe achieve economic recovery after World War II (1939-1945). The OECD’s headquarters are in Paris.
