Orizaba, << `awr` uh ZAH buh or `aw` ree SAH vah, >> Pico de, is the highest mountain in Mexico and the third highest in North America. Only Denali and Mount Logan are higher. Pico de Orizaba rises 18,410 feet (5,610 meters) above sea level. Its Aztec name, CitlaltĂ©petl << `see` tlahl TAY peht uhl >> , means “mountain of the star.” The mountain stands about 30 miles (48 kilometers) north of the city of Orizaba, Mexico. It is a volcano, part of Mexico’s Cordillera Neo-Volcánica, that last erupted in the late 1600’s.
