Pearce, Bobby

Pearce, Bobby (1905-1976), an Australian rower, became one of the greatest scullers of all time. He won gold medals in single sculls events at the Olympic Games in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, in 1928, the British Empire Games in London in 1930, and the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 1932. He also won the Henley Diamond Sculls in 1931. He became a professional in 1933 and won the world title that year. He also won the world title in 1934 and 1938.

Henry Robert Pearce was born in Sydney on Sept. 30, 1905. His father and grandfather were both professional rowers. Pearce’s son, also named Bobby, became a champion rower for Canada. Pearce died on May 20, 1976.
