Perry, Fred (1909-1995), was one of the United Kingdom’s greatest tennis players. He was the first male player to win all four grand slam singles titles. Perry won the United States Open in 1933, 1934, and 1936; the Wimbledon championship in 1934, 1935, and 1936; the Australian Open in 1934; and the French Open in 1935. He also played in the United Kingdom’s winning Davis Cup team from 1933 to 1936. Perry became a professional after 1936.
Frederick John Perry was born on May 18, 1909, in Stockport, England. He became an American citizen in 1940. Perry died on Feb. 2, 1995.
