Pew Charitable Trusts is a nonprofit foundation that works to serve the public interest. Its assets come from seven charitable funds established between 1948 and 1979 by the sons and daughters of Joseph N. Pew, founder of the Sun Oil Company (now Sunoco, Inc.). Based in Philadelphia, the Pew Charitable Trusts is one of the wealthiest foundations in the United States. Its work includes informing the public about issues of public concern; advocating policy solutions in such areas as the environment and health; and supporting civic life by funding programs in the arts, health and welfare, and other areas.
