Pine siskin is a small finch that lives in North America. It eats the seeds from the cones of evergreen trees. The pine siskin is about 5 inches (13 centimeters) long and is colored gray and brown. It has yellow markings on its wings and tail that can be seen most clearly when it is flying. The pine siskin breeds in mountain areas of Canada and the Northeastern United States. It migrates, but not to the same place each year.
The pine siskin may spend the winter almost anywhere in the United States or Mexico. The bird usually nests in evergreen trees, and makes its nest of twigs, roots, plant bark, and hair. The pine siskin lays three or four pale green or bluish eggs marked with reddish-brown spots.
