Richardson, Victor York

Richardson, Victor York (1894-1969), was one of Australia’s most versatile sportsmen. He was captain of the Australian Rules football team of South Australia in 1920 and from 1922 to 1924. Richardson played for Australian cricket teams against England in the 1924-1925 and 1928-1929 seasons and as vice captain in 1930. He captained teams that toured New Zealand in 1928, Canada and the United States in 1932, and South Africa in the 1935-1936 season. He made his Test debut in 1924-1925. His last Test match was 1937-1938. Richardson’s career in first-class cricket extended from 1918-1919 to 1937-1938. His best Test cricket score was 138 runs against England at Melbourne in 1925.

Richardson was born on Sept. 7, 1894, in Linley, South Australia. He died on Oct. 30, 1969.
