Richmond, University of, is a private, liberal arts university in Richmond, Virginia. The university has two coordinate undergraduate colleges—Richmond College for men and Westhampton College for women. The University of Richmond was founded as Dunlora Academy in 1830. It was chartered as Richmond College in 1840 and received its present name in 1920. The university’s athletic teams are called the Spiders.
