Robinson, Joseph Taylor (1872-1937), was the Democratic candidate for Vice President of the United States in 1928. He and presidential candidate Alfred E. Smith lost to Republicans Herbert C. Hoover and Charles Curtis. Robinson was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1902. He was elected governor of Arkansas in 1912. Just after he took office, the state legislature elected him to the U.S. Senate. He served as Senate majority leader from 1933 until his death. He was born in Lonoke County, Arkansas, on Aug. 26, 1872. Robinson died on July 14, 1937.
