Rosewall, Ken

Rosewall, Ken (1934-…), an Australian tennis star, was one of the greatest players in the history of the sport. Rosewall won eight grand slam men’s singles championships—the Australian Open in 1953, 1955, 1971, and 1972; the French Open in 1953 and 1968; and the United States Open in 1956 and 1970. He never won the Wimbledon title, the fourth grand slam championship, but he reached the Wimbledon finals four times. He also won 10 grand slam men’s doubles and mixed doubles titles. Rosewall first played Davis Cup tennis for Australia at the age of 19. He played on six Australian Davis Cup teams. Those teams won the cup four times.

Kenneth Robert Rosewall was born on Nov. 2, 1934, in Sydney. He had one of the longest careers in tennis history. He reached the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open at the age of 17 and won his final tournament at the age of 43.
