Samoyed, << `sam` uh YEHD, >> is a dog bred by the Samoyed peoples of northern Siberia. The Samoyed is used to guard reindeer herds and to pull sleds. The dog is intelligent, has a pleasant disposition, and is fast. It has long, white hair and a muscular body. The Samoyed stands between 19 and 231/2 inches (48 and 59.7 centimeters) high at the shoulder and weighs from 35 to 60 pounds (16 to 27 kilograms).
