Savannah

Savannah was the first steamship to cross the Atlantic Ocean. The Savannah sailed from Savannah, Ga., on May 22, 1819, and docked in Liverpool, England, on June 20, 1819. It was driven by steam for 105 hours. Sails were used the rest of the time. See also Ship (Oceangoing steamships) .
