Beaumont, William

Beaumont, << BOH mont, >> William (1785-1853), an American physician, gained fame for his studies of the process of digestion. He conducted his noted experiments on a patient with gunshot wounds in the stomach. His Experiments and Observations on the Gastric Juice and the Physiology of Digestion (1833) describes the experiments.

Beaumont was born on Nov. 21, 1785, in Lebanon, Connecticut. He died on April 25, 1853.
