Tipperary was founded in the late 1100’s. It surrounded a castle built by Prince John (later King John) of England. The name Tipperary is well known because of the song “It’s a Long Way to Tipperary” (1912). This tune was a favorite marching song of Allied troops in World War I (1914-1918).
