United Service Organizations (USO) is a civilian nonprofit organization that serves the members of the United States armed forces and their families. The USO provides community information, family services, recreational activities, cultural programs, and celebrity entertainment. The USO offers its services worldwide in more than 150 locations, including airport centers, fleet centers, and family and community centers. Volunteers help run the USO, which operates entirely on private contributions.
The USO was founded in 1941 at the request of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The organization’s world headquarters are located in Washington, D.C.
