Voyageurs National Park

Voyageurs National Park, << `vwah` yah ZHURZ, >> lies in northern Minnesota at the United States-Canadian border. The early French-Canadian traders and pioneers known as voyageurs traveled the scenic waterways of the area. The park was approved by Congress in 1971 and established in 1975. It contains many lakes. Waterways are the main means of travel in the park. The major lakes include Kabetogama, Namakan, and Rainy. Moose, black bears, deer, timber wolves, wildfowl–including golden eagles, and other animals live in the park.
