Walter, Thomas Ustick, << YOO stihk >> (1804-1887), an American architect, became noted for his buildings in the Greek Revival style. He is known chiefly as the architect of the United States Capitol from 1851 to 1865. He added the Senate and House wings, and the large cast-iron dome, painted to resemble stone. Walter was born on Sept. 4, 1804, in Philadelphia. With architect Richard Upjohn, he founded the American Institute of Architects in 1857. He died on Oct. 30, 1887.
