Warwick, << WAWR ihk or WAWR wihk >> (pop. 82,823), is one of Rhode Island’s largest cities and a commercial center. Warwick lies on Greenwich Bay, in east-central Rhode Island. Warwick and Providence form a metropolitan area with a population of 1,676,579.
Warwick is the site of several villages that date from the 1600’s. Its industries produce electric and metal products. Leading employers include health care, education, insurance, and trade. T. F. Green Airport, Rhode Island’s largest airport, is in Warwick. Narragansett Bay, a popular sailing and fishing area, is nearby. Warwick received its city charter in 1931. It has a mayor-council form of government.
