Wheeler, Burton Kendall (1882-1975), a Montana Democrat, served in the United States Senate from 1923 until 1947. In 1924, he ran unsuccessfully for vice president on the Progressive Party ticket (see Progressive Party). He helped expose the scandals during the presidential administration of Warren G. Harding. Wheeler was an extreme isolationist before World War II (1939-1945). In 1962, he published his autobiography, Yankee from the West. He was born on Feb. 27, 1882, in Hudson, Massachusetts. He died on Jan. 6, 1975.
