Johnson Foundation

Johnson Foundation is one of the largest private charitable organizations in the United States and the largest one devoted to improving health and health care. Its full name is the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. It focuses on populations most vulnerable to illness, specific diseases of regional or national concern, and broad national health issues.

The foundation was established in 1936 by Robert Wood Johnson, chairman and chief executive officer of Johnson & Johnson, a large health and medical-care products company. He died in 1968, and his estate of more than $1 billion was donated to the foundation in 1972. The foundation is not connected with any corporation. Its headquarters are in Princeton, New Jersey.
