Afghan, << AF guhn, >> hound is a dog known for its speed and agility. It has been used for hunting gazelles and hares in Afghanistan for hundreds of years. The Afghan hound has long ears, large feet, and a heavy coat of long, silky hair. It can be any of many colors. It stands about 27 inches (69 centimeters) high at the shoulder and weighs about 50 to 60 pounds (23 to 27 kilograms). The Afghan hound moves with its head and tail held high. No one knows just where or when the Afghan originated.
