Praia << PRY uh >> (pop. 140,000) is the capital and largest city of Cabo Verde (also known as Cape Verde). Praia lies on the southern coast of Santiago Island.
Praia is a trading center and major seaport for Cabo Verde. The city has some light industry. The fishing industry is also important. Several nearby beaches attract tourists. The city has an international airport.
