Rectangle is a four-sided plane figure with four right angles. It is a parallelogram with right angles. A rectangle is symmetric with respect to the lines joining the midpoints of opposite sides. That is, the two halves of the rectangle determined by these lines have the same shape and size.
The formula for the area (A) of a rectangle whose sides measure l units and w units is A = lw. The rectangle’s perimeter, P, is 2l + 2w, or P = 2 (l + w). If a room measures 12 feet by 15 feet, its floor area is 12 feet X 15 feet or 180 square feet, and its picture molding, or perimeter, is 2(12 + 15) or 54 feet.
