Hall, Charles Martin (1863-1914), made possible the industrial use of aluminum. He discovered a method of producing aluminum from bauxite, which he found would dissolve in the molten mineral cryolite. An electric current separated aluminum from this solution. Hall was born in Thompson, Ohio, and attended Oberlin College. He left $3 million to Oberlin College.
