Powell, Cecil Frank (1903-1969), a British physicist, won the 1950 Nobel Prize in physics for developing a simple technique to photograph the action of high-speed particles. With this technique, now used everywhere in nuclear research, he and his coworkers discovered the existence of two types of nuclear particles called mesons and showed how they disintegrate. Powell was born in Tonbridge, England.
