Wirtz, William Willard (1912-2010), was secretary of labor from 1962 to 1969. He served under Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson.
Wirtz was born in DeKalb, Illinois, on March 14, 1912. He graduated from Beloit College and Harvard Law School. He served as chairman of the National Wage Stabilization Board in 1946. He was a professor at Northwestern University Law School from 1946 to 1954, and then practiced law in Chicago until 1961. Wirtz became undersecretary of labor in 1961. He died on April 24, 2010.
