Page, Walter Hines (1855-1918), was an American editor and diplomat. He served as United States ambassador to Britain during World War I (1914-1918). Page was born on Aug. 15, 1855, in Cary, North Carolina. He was educated at Randolph-Macon College and Johns Hopkins University. From 1898 to 1899, Page was editor of The Atlantic Monthly (now The Atlantic). In 1899, he became a partner in the publishing firm of Doubleday, Page and Company. In 1900 he founded the magazine The World’s Work, which he edited until 1913. Page wrote the books The Rebuilding of Old Commonwealths (1902), A Publishers Confession (1905), and The Southerner (1909). He died on Dec. 21, 1918.
