Patti, << PAT ee, >> Adelina (1843-1919), a coloratura soprano, won fame as one of the world’s greatest operatic singers.

After a tour of the West Indies with the pianist Louis Moreau Gottschalk, she made a sensational New York debut as Lucia in 1859. Her debuts in London in 1861 and in Paris in 1862 were no less brilliant. Her repertoire included about 40 coloratura roles.

Adela Juana Maria Patti was born on Feb. 19, 1843, in Madrid, Spain, of an Italian father and a Spanish mother, both singers. She died on Sept. 27, 1919.
