Cochrane, Mickey (1903-1962), rose to baseball fame as a catcher for the Philadelphia Athletics and catcher-manager for the Detroit Tigers. He ranks as one of the finest catchers in baseball history. He was a masterful handler of pitchers, and had a lifetime batting average of .320. Cochrane played from 1925 to 1937. He was struck on the head by a baseball in 1937, which ended his baseball career. Cochrane was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1947. Cochrane was born on April 6, 1903, in Bridgewater, Massachusetts. His full name was Gordon Stanley Cochrane. He died on June 28, 1962.
