Ben-Zvi, Izhak, << behn TSVEE, IHTZ hawk >> (1884-1963), became Israel’s second president in 1952. He was reelected in 1957 and 1962. In 1920, Ben-Zvi helped found the Jewish National Council to represent the Jewish community in Palestine. He served as its chairman from 1931 to 1948. He represented the Mapai (Israeli Workers’ Party) in the Knesset (parliament) of Israel in 1949 and 1951. He was born in Poltava, Russia.
