Leslie, Frank

Leslie, Frank (1821-1880), was a publisher of periodicals. His most popular publication was Frank Leslie’s Illustrated Newspaper, later Leslie’s Weekly, which was issued from 1855 to 1922. His paper was a forerunner of today’s picture magazines. It grew out of his work as a wood engraver. Leslie was born Henry Carter in Ipswich, England. But he signed his engravings Frank Leslie, and adopted that name. Leslie moved to New York City in 1848.
