Muench, Aloisius Joseph (1889-1962), became a cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church in 1959. Muench was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Feb. 18, 1889. He was ordained a priest in 1913. Muench was appointed bishop of Fargo, North Dakota, in 1935. In 1950, he was elevated to archbishop of Fargo. Muench was made papal nuncio (ambassador) to West Germany in 1951. He died on Feb. 15, 1962.
