Repton, Humphrey (1752-1818), was an English landscape gardener. He made his greatest contributions to landscape architecture by publishing books on his observations. He is credited with introducing the informal style that has become identified with English landscape gardening. His books include Sketches and Hints on Landscape Gardening (1794) and An Inquiry into the Changes of Taste in Landscape Gardening, with Some Observations on Its Theory and Practice (1806). Repton was born at Bury St. Edmunds.
