Pippen, Scottie (1965-…), ranks among the most versatile players in the history of professional basketball. Pippen played both forward and guard. He was known for his play-making skills, his slashing moves to the basket, and his shooting range. He was also one of the finest defensive players in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and was often selected for the NBA all-defensive team. Pippen played for the Chicago Bulls from 1987 to 1998. During that time, he and his teammate Michael Jordan formed one of the most exciting one-two combinations in NBA history.
Pippen was born in Hamburg, Arkansas, on Sept. 25, 1965. He played basketball at the University of Central Arkansas, graduating in 1987. He was drafted by the Seattle SuperSonics of the NBA at the fifth selection on the first round of the 1987 draft. Seattle immediately traded him to Chicago. He was a member of the United States basketball teams that won gold medals at the Summer Olympic Games in 1992 and 1996. Pippen helped lead the Bulls to six NBA championships in the 1990’s. In 1999, he played for the Houston Rockets. Later that year, the Rockets traded him to the Portland Trail Blazers. In 2003, Pippen returned to play for the Chicago Bulls. He retired as a player in 2004. Pippen was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010.
