Aubrieta << aw bree EHT uh >> is a plant of the mustard family. The name is sometimes spelled aubreta or aubrietia. Aubrietas are small, low plants that intertwine to form a mat in rock gardens and borders. The plants bear small, hairy, oval leaves and pink or purple flowers. Aubrietas grew originally in western Asia, but they are now cultivated in many parts of the world. Gardeners grow aubrietas from seeds or from cuttings.
