Bog of Allen is one of the largest peat bogs in Ireland. The raised bog occupies about 375 square miles (970 square kilometers) of the Irish Midlands region. It stretches from County Kildare through parts of counties Laois, Offaly, and Westmeath. Some families near the bog still use its peat as fuel for cooking and heating.
