Downpatrick is a town in Down, in Northern Ireland. It is named after Saint Patrick, who is said to be buried there. The name Downpatrick comes from the Irish Dun Phadraig, which means Patrick’s fort. According to tradition, Saint Patrick landed at Saul, near Downpatrick, in A.D. 432. Later, he built a church in Downpatrick. In the 1100’s, Saint Malachy rebuilt it.
