Quetta

Quetta (pop. 1,001,205) is a city in western Pakistan. It lies about 367 miles (590 kilometers) northwest of Karachi. Quetta is an important military station and trade center. It is on the direct route from Karachi to southern Afghanistan. Traded goods include fruit, wool, carpets, and leather. The University of Balochistan is in Quetta.

The British acquired Quetta by treaty in 1876. The city was severely damaged by an earthquake in 1935.
