Bootes, << boh OH teez, >> is a constellation in the northern celestial hemisphere. It can be found easily at night because it contains Arcturus, one of the brightest stars in the northern sky.
Bootes is known by several names. It is usually called the Herdsman because it seems to guard a fold of animals formed by the nearby stars. Some people call Bootes the Bear Driver, because it appears to be chasing the Great Bear and the Small Bear, the constellations Ursa Major and Ursa Minor, across the sky.
Mythology has many stories about the origin of Bootes. In one legend, Bootes is Arcas, the hunter-son of Callisto, the Great Bear.
