Mead is an alcoholic drink made from honey. It is prepared by boiling honeycombs in water and adding yeast to the resulting liquor. The liquor then ferments, producing mead. Spices are sometimes added. A drink called metheglin, which is similar to mead, is prepared from fresh honey and water. Mead was a popular beverage in parts of Europe in the Middle Ages.
