Strath

Strath is a Scottish word for a wide valley. A strath is a stretch of flat land crossed by a river or next to an expanse of water. The word is a form of the Gaelic word srath, meaning valley. It is frequently found as the first part of compound place names in Scotland, such as Strathmore.
