Colorado State University

Colorado State University is a public, state-supported institution of higher learning in Fort Collins, Colorado. The university, originally called the Agricultural College of Colorado, was founded in 1870 under the Morrill Act of 1862. This act granted public lands to support agricultural or mechanical education. Classes began in 1879. The school became the Colorado State College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts, called Colorado A&M, in 1935. The university adopted its present name in 1957. Colorado State University’s athletic teams are called the Rams.

Colorado State University is the central part of the Colorado State University System. In 2003, the system began operating Colorado State University-Pueblo (formerly the University of Southern Colorado). Colorado State University-Pueblo emphasizes professional studies, such as business, nursing, social work, and teacher education. Athletic teams at Colorado State University-Pueblo are called the ThunderWolves.
